In short, this tent is awesome! Maybe you think you’ve seen a similar tent somewhere else, but this one is unique. Read on to hear a detailed explanation as to why!
There are mounting rails for external gear like lights or other accessories. There are rails on top, on the sides, and underneath.
The overall construction is quite robust. I weigh 250lbs and it feel very stable when I climb in.
Setup is a breeze, easily done by one person and the website description of time to setup is very accurate.
This thing has TONS of windows allowing for excellent light and air flow. All windows have screens too. Awnings on both sides and the door give great versatility and access. Can ventilate even in inclement weather.
Speaking of light, the built in LED works really well and is a great touch. As mentioned above, lots of places to mount additional lights for the trail or at camp.
The mattress pad is actually pretty comfortable for how compact it is! I am a bit of a princess when it comes to my padding and I supplemented it with a queen size mattress which fits really well. I just put a thick cloth under each side where the scissor hinges touch the edges of the mattress to protect it. Definitely sleeps two large adults comfortably.
Installation is actually really easy and intuitive.
Finally, and I think most importantly, Traverse Adventure Gear was super responsive when I had questions about installation and operation. You are talking to a real person here in the US who actually USES the equipment and cares about your experience with it. This final point would by itself be reason enough to get this tent, but the tent itself is an awesome addition to my rig.

I decided to purchase the Hideout RTT for a couple reasons. I had injured my shoulder trying to open a different RTT that had too many zippers/velcro and needed something easier and faster. I can open/close this Hideout RTT in about a minute which is less stress on my shoulder. I have also forgotten my ladder before so switching to this RTT the ladder stays with the tent at all times. I needed something to fit my mid height bed rack on a short bed Tacoma without overhang and this was the perfect size. Being an aluminum hard shell makes it rugged and sturdy. The rack on top makes mounting any extra accessories easy. The mattress is nice and comfortable. It fits 3 people but I can starfish inside when I’m by myself. I can close all the windows and front access for a pitch black sleepy time. The skylight is nice when you want to gaze at the stars or just want a bit of light coming through. The materials are nice and tough. I slept through 50mph winds and nothing came apart! I love the quality of this RTT and its overall design. After owning it for over a year now it still looks and feels brand new like the first time I used it. I recommend this RTT to anyone that wants a durable hard shell family or single quick set up, fits on midsized short bed trucks. I have gone through 2 other RTT’s but the Hideout RTT is the best by far! Exceeded all my expectations and I’m very happy with my purchase!
